PUNTA CANA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (PUJ)
Punta Cana International Airport is owned by a private owner – Grupo Punta Cana. Airport is built on an area of 2 million m2. The construction has started in 1984 with a small airstrip and a small airport building. In the first year the airport received 2,976 passengers. Currently the airport has to offer taxi service, 8 outputs, three information centers, 6 points of luggage packing, several offices of arrival and departure, VIP-hall, 50 check-in sections, numerous gift and duty-free shops. Punta Cana International Airport can also offer VIP terminal for private flights. Airport accepts all types of aircraft from many countries; small planes, helicopters and services local flights as well. During the season, the airport will accept up to 250 flights a week. At the moment, the airport takes 48% of all flights arriving into the country with the passengers. The Central Bank of the Dominican Republic defines the Punta Cana International airport as the most important airport of the Dominican Republic.
